Churros Simple Recipe

Ingredients for Churros Poppers

I get the strangest cravings sometimes. I really wanted something with cinnamon the other day, and churros came to mind. I thought it would be fun to make a poppable version, so why not? 😍

Making these Churros Poppers is so quick and easy! But I have to warn you that one batch of these cinnamon nuggets might not be enough. You really will want to eat the whole batch by yourself! You can easily double or triple the recipe if you need to. If you run out during a game or party, it’s easy to make more!

You can use a rounded measuring spoon instead of a cookie scoop to keep the poppers the same size. It also helped me roll these while they were still a little warm!

Take out your stretchy pants. I bet you can’t stop at one or two!

FAQ

➡️ What do churros taste like?
Think of a fluffy doughnut (in this case doughnut hole) with a cinnamon-sugar coating.

➡️ Are churros vegan?
Yes, they are! Churros are so simple to make and only require a handful of ingredients – sugar, cinnamon, flour, water, salt, and oil.

➡️ Why are my churros doughy/raw inside?
If your churros are coming out raw or doughy, try frying them for a little longer. If they are dark and still raw, then your oil temperature may be too high or you may need to make smaller poppers to ensure they cook all of the way through.

➡️ Can I reheat churros poppers?
You sure can! If you are making these ahead, I suggest not coating them until after they are reheated – they’ll be just as perfect as if you had made them from start to finish without freezing.
TO REHEAT: Bake the churros poppers in a 400°F oven for 3-6 minutes or until heated through.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying

Mixing dough for Churros Poppers

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl or brown paper bag, combine the ½ cup sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; set aside.
  2. Heat about 2-1/2 inches deep of oil in a deep-fryer to 375°F.
  3. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, 2-1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil and then remove it from the heat. Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  4. When the dough is cool enough to handle, scoop and lightly roll the dough into balls about the size of walnuts. Fry 3-4 dough balls at a time, being sure not to overcrowd the pan until golden brown. Remove from the oil and immediately shake or stir in the reserved cinnamon-sugar mixture. Put it on a plate and do the same thing with the rest of the dough.
  5. Serve immediately.

Serving Suggestions

While these little treats rock on their own, you can dip them into chocolate sauce, melted Nutella, caramel sauce, or dulce de leche for even more awesomeness!

A cookie scoop helps keep the poppers in uniform size, but you could also use a rounded measuring spoon.

When rolling these, you want a gentle roll – just enough to form a ball.
