What do you need to make overnight oats?

Ingredients for overnight oats

You only need oats and liquid to make the simplest and easiest overnight oats dish. But to get that delicious and creamy texture, our famous overnight oats recipe needs a few more items.

You will need:

  • milk
  • oats
  • chia seeds
  • Greek yogurt
  • maple syrup

We have tried this recipe with both rolled oats and quick-cooking oats, and both work well. If you use rolled oats, they’ll have more of a “bite,” but if you use quick-cooking oats, they’ll be creamier.

You can use any kind of milk with this recipe. Almond milk is our favorite, but cow’s, soy, oat, and other types of milk work too!

Chia seeds are what we use to make thick overnight oats. Chia seeds swell and turn into a gel-like substance when they are in liquid. Don’t forget the chia!

Greek yogurt: Not only does it add protein, but it also makes your oats taste like cheesecake. If you want to keep things vegan, you can use a yogurt made from plants.

Vanilla: You can’t go wrong with vanilla. We almost always put a teaspoon of vanilla essence in all of our overnight oatmeal dishes!

Honey and maple syrup are our favorite all-natural sweeteners, but you can also use agave or even brown sugar.
